Wir lernen wie du als Musiker*In dein Einkommen diversifizieren kannst: von Förderungen, Markenkooperationen, Verlagdeals, Festival und Live Gagen, Zusammenarbeit mit kulturellen Institutionen, DJing oder Musikunterricht: es gibt unzählige Art und Weisen in der Musikindustrie Geld zu verdienen, an die du bislang vielleicht noch nicht gedacht hast. Im Austausch mit anderen wollen wir Ängste und Hindernisse adressieren und Lösungsansätze erarbeiten.

First steps on professional stages

We’ll be covering all steps how to book, advance and play your first shows on a professional level.

Starting from how to write a booking inquiry mail and what kind of show to book, we’ll move through the process of securing the deal, advancing the production and creating your own technical rider to organizing the day of show.

We’ll cover all terminology and get you stage ready at the end of the workshop.

We will make sure that by the end of the workshop:

- you have a Tech-Rider ready that is clear, understandable and contains all the necessary info

- you will know how to write booking inquiry that you actually get answers on

- you’ve learned all the essential vocabulary to plan your show

- you will know all the roles involved what’s their individual job

- we will have covered „gig-etiquette“, the dos and don’ts on stage and backstage

- you will have learned how to make the most out of your soundcheck time

- you know what different deals there are, what’s a good offer and how to make sure the deal is closed

- you will have learned how to schedule the whole day including traveling, accommodation booking etc.

- and of course we will take our time to answer all of your questions

In this Music Pool community late afternoon, we want to look into current developments in generative AI technologies and their applications in music, and discuss them from the perspective of musicians. What does a current reality check look like? What changes?

One area we'd like to look into is copyright. When media become more and more interactive and fluid with generative AI, how does that change ideas of authorship and copyright? When every song is at the same time an instrument for users to build on and work with, what new organizational frameworks do we need for creative economies?

How do music platforms use generative AI? And how are technologies currently being developed, who drives developments and what interests shape them?

How are generative AI technologies being used creatively by musicians and what do they change - looking at both problems and possibilities?

We look forward to our conversation with:

Zachary Cooper (Amsterdam Law & Technology Institute | Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam) is a legal scholar, filmmaker and musician, whose research programme focuses on techno-regulatory incoherence when applying copyright law to emerging forms of Generative AI-enabled media. He examines the ways in which Generative AI technologies are able to, sometimes subtly, subvert and confound foundational legal tenets, and how techno-regulatory incoherence is exploited to emancipate emergent tech from the control of the law. He served as Co-Editor of the European Journal of Law and Technology and as Editor-In-Chief of the Amsterdam Law Forum. He recently completed a research programme at the Weizenbaum Institute where he organised an international workshop bringing together leading IP scholars and creative GenAI pioneers to bridge gaps in contemporary scholarship with near-future-state technology.
